English Language Development for K-12 English Learners at WBLAS

White Bear Lake Area Schools provides a robust English Language Development (ELD) program, ensuring comprehensive language support for all students. Our program is dedicated to fostering English language proficiency and is tailored to meet diverse learner needs. We demonstrate commitment to inclusivity and equity through a collaborative framework that unites EL licensed teachers and classroom educators. Focusing on core language domains—Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing—we aim to address diverse learner needs, creating a nurturing environment for their English language development.

Program Models Offered

  • WBLAS EL teachers align their curriculum with the district's English literacy curricula, WIDA national standards, and Minnesota state content standards.
  • The EL program offers three distinct models: Pullout English Instruction, Collaborative Teaching Model, and Sheltered Content Classes (Secondary).
  • Support staff, social workers, guidance counselors, and nurses, provide resource services to EL students and their families.
  • EL teachers align language instruction with district content standards and are incorporating WIDA standards.
